I’m So Glad You’re Here

Laura Elk-Weist, LCSW

Meet Laura (she/her/hers)

I offer an understanding of the difficulty that comes when you feel like parts of you don't "fit". As a queer person, I value holding space for people, especially those who feel marginalized, alone, or lacking support. I want my clients to feel greater sense of ease and joy.

I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago and also a Master’s degree in Social and Cultural Foundations in Education with a Certificate in Women’s Studies from DePaul University where I graduated with honors. Creative and curious by nature, I studied Art History in undergrad at Northern Illinois University. I have been trained in several different modalities including Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and am in the process of being certified. I approach therapy with a client-centered and collaborative approach. Ultimately, I believe that you have everything you need inside of yourself to create the change you seek in your life. I will help guide you through your journey and provide you with any additional skills/tools you may require.
